Birmingham Police searching for burglary, rape, stabbing suspect

Police in Birmingham are searching for a man they believe broke into several residences early Wednesday morning, sexually assaulted a woman and then slit her throat.

Some time before 6 a.m., the suspect broke into an apartment in the 2900 block of Highland Avenue. After the suspect got into a physical altercation with a resident, he ran off.

About an hour and a half later, he forced his way into a unit at the Chateau Avalon apartments in the 3000 block of 13th Avenue South. When the suspect realized the residents were home, he fled.

In the same apartment complex, he went into a different unit through a sliding door where he sexually assaulted a woman and then cut her throat.

The victim was taken to UAB hospital.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20’s, around 5 foot 9 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, wearing a red shirt and red hat.

Anyone with information on these crimes is urged to call Birmingham Police at 205-328-9311 or Crimestoppers at 205-254-7777.
