Girls, Inc. holding back-to-school uniform drive | News
BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- A clean uniform for the new school year may be just as important as any school supplies in making sure students are ready to learn.
Workers with Girls, Inc. of Central Alabama say it can affect a student's self esteem.
That's why the organization launches a uniform drive each year to help students whose parents may not afford a new uniform to start the new year.
The uniform drive launched three years ago. Last year, they collected 312 uniforms. Each girl was able to take home two whole uniforms thanks to the drive.
Uniforms are for students from elementary to high school ages attending Birmingham and Bessemer city schools. The collection is primarily for girls, but they will take uniforms for boys as well.
The tops should be white or light blue and the bottoms should be navy, black or khaki. Pants sizes should be junior sizes 9-11, for younger kids sizes 6X to 12, and plus sizes.
